Similar to the New Moms’ Group – the 2nd-Time Moms’ Group is a combination of meditation/discussion/support group geared towards mothers of babies up to 6 months of age who have one or more older children. These groups meet for 8 weeks and provide an opportunity for moms to talk about the joys and challenges of integrating your newborn into your family and balancing the care needs of your children, yourself, and your partner. We will practice mindfulness skills, build community, and discuss topics relevant to mindful mothering. Sample topics might include: balancing the needs of two or more children, helping older child in the transition to becoming an older sister/brother, attending to your relationship, and staying “present” in the midst of the chaos, providing scaffolding for the development of a positive sibling relationship, and more.This group will meet in N. Berkeley.

The cost is $320.00 for the 8 weeks. There may be some sliding scale spots available.

New Free Intro Class – THE BIRTH JOURNEY CLASS, July 8th

Susan Bradford is offering a complimentary (FREE) class for couples to discover how The Birth Journey class series can help them prepare fully for giving birth,  honor this journey  and  meet some other really great pregnant couples wanting to do the same ~  you’ll get a sampling of the many ways the class prepares couples for birth:  connecting to your baby en utero, pertinent Third Trimester information,  guided visualization,  conditioning exercises and Birth Process Art.

Bay Area Night Doulas offer in-home, non-judgmental care during the first six to twelve weeks postpartum.

GILLIAN CROKE, Bay Area Night Doula Gillian teaches Newborn Baby and Breastfeeding classes at Day One locations in San Francisco, Walnut Creek and Palo Alto and is an international board certified lactation consultant. She also provides night doula services to families.

NOREEN MCCARTHY, Bay Area Night Doula Noreen has provided nighttime doula services in the Bay Area for the last ten years. Noreen will speak about some challenges for postpartum families and how she and the other Bay Area Night Doulas use a gentle and practical approach to those problems.

JULIANN FAHERTY, Bay Area Night Doula Juliann has much experience supporting postpartum families with twins and triplets. She will speak about her work supporting families of multiples.

TARA CAROLAN, Bay Area Night Doula Tara, an RN who has trained at S.F. General Maternity, has spent many years helping families with children of all ages. She has experience in labor and delivery as well as postpartum care.

KIMBERLY WRIGHT, Bay Area Night Doula Client and DayOne Member Kimberly is a mother of two, DayOne member, and past client of Bay Area Night Doulas. She will speak about her positive experiences with the group.

Infant Massage Workshop

Time: 1:30-3:30pm. 

Location: Carmel Blue, 1418 Grant Ave., San Francisco, CA 94133 (in North Beach)

Fee: $65 per baby and one or two caregivers. We strongly encourage two adults per baby, so that one is free to meet baby’s needs for feeding, diapering or cuddling as they arise and the other is free to focus on the class content, practicing on a doll if baby is napping or not able to receive massage at that time.

Minimum 4 babies/parents, maximum 7.

 

 

Description

Love, compassion and respect are essential to a healthy family. Massaging your baby contributes tremendously to cultivating these qualities through respectful communication and nurturing touch.

 

In this two hour class, you will:

* Learn how to give your baby a basic full-body massage;

* Learn clear protocols to relieve gas, constipation, colic and stress;

* Learn songs and rhymes to accompany massage;

* Learn through massage how to nourish your child’s well-being, enhancing brain development and emotional and physical health;

* Bond with your baby;

* Build confidence in caring for your child.

 

About the teacher:

Kari is a certified infant massage instructor, yoga and meditation teacher, massage therapist, and educator with a passionate and extensive specialization in supporting the development of healthy families from conception onward.  She is the mama of two very happily massaged children. The next 6-week session of Alameda Parent Support (APS) will start Monday, July 9, 2012

Topics include Riruals and Routines, Postpartum Depression vs. Baby Blues, the Transition from Partners to Parents, issues around sleep and self care.

The group will be facilitated by Susan Ono, Psy.D, Licensed psychologist and Peggy Hinkle, IBCLC (Certified Lactation Consultant)>

An optional home visit or phone consult with a perinatal clinician, a session of infant massage @ a partner night are also included.
