Infant Massage Workshop

Infant Massage

Natural Resources

a pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting center

1367 Valencia street (at 25th street)

San Francisco

Friday, August 19th

   11:00am – 12:00pm

For babies age 2 months to not-yet-crawling.

Touch is the first language. The skin is the largest sense organ. Through the ritual of massage, you will learn about your baby as she learns about herself. Massage nourishes your child, and facilitates all aspects of his development.

In this two-hour class, you will gain confidence as parents, and bond with your little one. You will learn how to give a simple, full- body infant massage, as well as techniques to relieve complaints such as gas, constipation, colic and stress. You will have an opportunity to discuss issues of early parenting such as crying, seeing and responding to your baby’s cues, and parental self-care.

NOTE: The room will be kept VERY WARM, so that your naked baby can relax. Adults should wear layers.

Register early, as class size is deliberately kept small.
* Bring two adult-size bath towels.
* Dress comfortably – you will be sitting on the floor.
* Partners are most welcome and can take an active role in massaging their babies. Also, at some point during the class your baby will likely need to be fed or changed, or want to nap. At that time, one person can meet these needs, and the other can focus on class content and practice on a doll provided by the instructor.

Your Instructor
Lola Carrington is a post-partum doula, Loving Touch trained infant massage instructor, and mother of two. After the birth of her first daughter in 2006 she became passionate about supporting families through the amazing and often intense transition into parenthood. It brings her joy to impart techniques for bonding and attachment to parents and caregivers.

Your Baby and the Rolling to Tummy Milestone — www.heartswaddle.com

Your Baby and the Rolling to Tummy Milestone

Around the time your baby is 3-6 months of age, your baby will begin to roll to side or tummy. Once your baby begins to roll to side or tummy during playtime, they will soon transfer their learning to their sleeptime and roll to their side or tummy in their sleep. The first few nights that your baby begins to roll in his sleep, he may wake up and call out to you. The rolling milestone is still so new and babies often practice in their sleep. Because of this, they will easily get stuck and will need your help to return to sleeping on their back. After a few nights on up to a week of helping your baby to roll onto his back, your baby will begin to be able to complete the roll on his own and will no longer need your help. Once a baby is strong enough to roll onto his tummy without your help, he is safe to sleep on his tummy at night. Be sure to remove all loose objects such as blankets, stuffed animals, and quilts fromt the crib. During the day, offer your baby lots of time to practice rolling during tummy time. If you are still swaddling your baby at night, you can now begin to swaddle one arm out of your Hands to Heart Sleep Swaddle™ wing while continuing to swaddle one arm inside the wing. After a few nights of helping your baby to get used to having one arm out, remove the wing from the back of the sleep sack, and continue to use the Hands to Heart Sleep Sack™ without the wing attached. You can use the sleep sack until your baby begins to pull up to standing or begins to walk.
